My Moths are reaching that lean, leggy and over confident stage, which tells me it will soon be time for them to move on. Only 2 weeks until these little dudes are officially able to fly the nest. Next Monday they will be going for their final vaccination and health check and soon after will be packing their bags.
This week all the kittens have had open access to the cat run via the ‘cat room’. They love stalking each other out in the mini jungle and tearing around on the climbers in there too. It does mean they also have access to the garage with all the tools and gardening stuff, so not ideal but what can I do? They love to explore. They always come back into the lounge for snoozing though as there is a new low-level chair that they seem to have commandeered.
No new photos this week but follow the link below to a gorgeous video featuring the Moths and the Butterflies.

9 weeks old today. I didn't bother posting any pictures of our beautiful babes last week as I didn't take any decent ones. It has been so grey here in Wales for the past few weeks it has been really difficult to get any decent shots. Nevertheless, our Moths are extremely beautiful kittens. I can't believe we still have 3 of them available. GT has ideas about staying here anyway, I think, he is trying to work his magic on me. He is so adorable. He loves to cuddle and will make a wonderful lap cat. He comes up to my bedroom for cuddles in the morning, on his own! And when I hold him he looks into my eyes. He reminds me of his great grandma, Ola, who does the same thing. He is sooo cute when he carries little toys around the house. In fact a number of the kittens are doing this now. They like crocheted bootees or Sylvanian animals (grrrr). You can hear the shrieks from my little girls as the kitties make off with their beloved squirrel family :-)) Bilberry continues to be a sweet natured, loving little girl. She too likes to look you in the eye when being cuddled. I find this very endearing. Wave is still indepentent and full of adventure. Buffy however, seems to be settling down as little and is also turning into something of a lap cat. Dingy is a real character, naughty, noisy and affectionate.
On Monday our Moths went for their first vaccination and vet check. They are all solid, healthy kittens and very well behaved for the vet. Only Dingy protested, but then he would - he has something to say about everything!
Wave looks like a little white mouse here (not the confectionary variety)

Here he is again looking slightly more elegant.

Buffy's pattern is developing, slowly.
Here she is asleep between her 'mummies'.

7 weeks old and totally adorable. Up the stairs, under the beds, in the cupboards, everywhere. They are so hard to contain. The moment a door opens a crack there is a kitten through, maybe even two. Still they aren't really doing any harm.
They are so cuddly now and are reaching the stage where they are happy to curl up and sleep on a human lap. I seem to spend a lot of time just cuddling them. Their little purrs are coming along.
Their individual personalities are shining through too. Bilberry is super talkative and very into people and laps. Dingy is independent, naughty and curious. GT is sweet, gentle and laid back, he likes his cuddles. Wave is determined, cool and loving. Buffy is confident, adventurous and spirited.

6 weeks old today and the Moths are everywhere. They climb the stairs, they climb the log pile, they climb my legs (ouch). I'm having to keep an eye on the doors or they'd be out in the garden! They are greedy little guys and are all so competitive for food. GT and Wave growl at the others as they eat. They attack everything that moves, especially my hair. I like it, it's cute but really they are such effective mini preditors now. They all have such lovely deep blue eyes and their markings are showing more clearly. Though, of course, it will be many months before their patterns are fully expressed.
We've done away with the giant kitten box and just have two large baskets out for the babies to sleep in now. We have litter trays everywhere. On the whole the toileting is going really well but there are occasionally some accidents :-( As with all our kittens, they do love sleeping behind and inside our big sofa and that presents a few problems but nothing I'm not used to.
Here they are:

I am just loving our Moths at this stage, they are so adorable - full of fun and adventure. It is only 5 weeks since they were born and yet they have changed so much. They are really beautiful too, such a lovely litter.
Yesterday Terrie decided to move the litter for the first time. As the kittens like playing in the louge mostly she decided this is where they should now reside. She dragged all the kittens to a spot behind the sofa. Of course she brought the Butterfiles too and Rinca happily came with them. By bed time, however, I had to move them all back out to the their box in the side room as a couple of the Moths have now taken to toileting by themselves so I need not to have them free-ranging on a carpeted floor.
Along with the independent (not parent stimulated) toileting, the Moths are also now eating solid food. My delivery of kitten food came yesterday. I tried them all on it and I'm happy to say they all got stuck in. So all is going well, just as it should be. Don't miss this week's video (link at the end of the photos).

4 weeks old today and the Moth's enter the phase known as: Super Cute. Just adorable! They are really out and about now, exploring their environment, so interested in humans. They are so much more aware this week, even of each other, playfully biting and swiping at siblings. What fun! Their personalities are developing too. Wave (who was the little one at the start) is such a character. He is always the first out of the kitten box and runs after people as soon as he sees them. He just wants to be part of the action, getting some attention. Buffy is also quite bold in this way. Bilberry too likes to be noticed and is already very talkative (like her mum, Terrie). Both GT and Dingy are a little more reserved at the moment and take everything in their stride. Dingy has a big loud voice and is quite partial to using it. He's as cute as can be. Though GT has to be the most handsome, he's very gorgeous.

3 weeks old today and here starts the crucial feline/human bonding period, which helps to shape a cat's personality. It is really imperitive that the kittens are well handled and loved from this point. So with that in mind I'm going to attempt to bring them into the lounge with us. They are currently in a small room just off the lounge to keep them separate from my 2 year old daughter, who adores them but handles them with a slightly 'stronger' grip than I would like. At this age the kittens can withand a bit more mauling but it will be very difficult to divide the 2 litters. So both the Moths and the Butterflies may have to move into the lounge.
All kittens are coming along beauifully. The seal tortie girl is showing gorgeous markings. The seal boy is quite handsome too, with his elegant mustache. Unfortunately they never photograph really well at this stage, particularly with the flash on them but pictures will improve as the weeks progress. I have come up with names for them now, moth names of course, see list above.

Today my little Moths are 2 weeks old. They are growing beautifully and their development is really coming on. They have all had their eyes open for over a week now so I'm used to them looking like kittens and not grubs anymore. On the whole they are doing great. They've given me next to no trouble and Terrie is a great mum. One of the little girls has had a slightly sticky eye but I've cleared that up with bathing in boiled water and one of the boys caused me some concern as he was looking quite small compared to the others but he seems to have caught up over the past day or so. He is certainly always feeding. They are all moving around more confidently. They still drag themselves around the kitten box but they are moving and they can push themselves up on their front paws to peer over each other. They have even started to roll onto their backs when I tickle their tummies. They are very cute.
They have two mums now as Rinca gave birth to her kittens on Monday and insisted on having them in Terrie's kitten box where she has already set up camp. Both mums are more than happy to share the load.
I am now starting to be more sure of what we have in terms of colour, see above. Over the next week I need to research moth names in order to name the little individuals.

Saturday 15th May, 2010
At 5am this morning, Terrie woke me with her cries. I let her come into bed with me for a snuggle, suspecting that it would be some time before she would need to be moved to her kitten box. I was wrong. After about 10 minutes I noticed a kitten was begining to emerge from her. So I let her stay where she was and there she gave birth to her 5 babies, after which we all went to sleep together.
Our 2 girls and 3 boys are all doing well. The smallest (who I confess is my favourite) was the first to open his eyes on day 3, soon after his siblings followed. Colours are just starting to show so it will be a while before I know exactly what we have but I think one is a red point boy and one is a seal point girl.
I have decided to call them the Moths as they were born on the same day that my band, Mink15, released the single 'Moth In My Ear'. Well, we have to get a theme from somewhere. So their pedigree names will be of the mothy variety.
Here they are on day 2.
